On the 5th
of December 2009 thirty students of our school went on an exciting trip to the
town of Istra in Moscow Oblast. We visited two historical places of interest:
the Memorial of the heroes-panfilovtsy in Dubosekovo and the New Jerusalem
Monastery (Russian: Новоиерусалимский монастырь).
At first we went on an
excursion to the Museum of 28 Panphilovtsy,
listened to the guide attentively, watched the exhibits and honored the
memory of the fallen heroes of the Great Patriotic war.
Then we travelled to New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem Monastery was founded in
1656 by Patriarch Nikon. This site was chosen for its resemblance to the Holy
Land. The River Istra represents the River Jordan, and the buildings represent
the holy places of Jerusalem. the Resurrection Cathedral (Воскресенский собор) is identical to a cathedral of
the same name in Jerusalem.
In March
2009 Russian president Dmitry Medvedev signed a presidential decree on the
restoration and renovation of the New Jerusalem Monastery.
The
excursions were cognitive , we enjoyed the beauty of our home land and learned
a lot of interesting things about the history of our country. |
